NANOMOLDING

The term “Nanomolding” was created at Medical Murray.  It refers to parts that are in the cubic millimeter size range which is 10-9 (the definition of “Nano”) cubic meters.

The Sesame

Nanomolding uses a molding machine called the Sesame, which was designed and patented by Medical Murray for creating small complex medical devices. Its features include very low melted volume and controlled high speed and high pressure injection. This allows the molding of sub-micro size parts with complex geometric features from materials such as bioabsorbable polymers that would degrade in standard equipment. All thermoplastic and silicone rubber materials can be utilized in the process. The Sesame is also an excellent machine for insert molding devices requiring tiny, integrated features, such as overmolded polymers, electronics or radiopaque markers.

We have multiple nanomolding machines in our development lab and manufacturing facility. The Sesame machine is also available commercially.

Nanomolding Services

Medical Murray utilizes nanomolding to create unique medical devices during our development process and also offers custom molding as a service. Customers come to us with their most difficult problems. Our steps for creating a specialized part include: 

• Jointly selecting the material requirements

• Building a custom mold insert (2 to 5 weeks)

• Developing a process and molding parts

• Often production products can be produced in the first mold
