Medical Device Design & Development Medical Murray is a specialist in medical device design and development Medical device design, medical device development by Medical Murray

Nano Part Development

Medical Murray has extensive experience in the injection molding and development of nanoscaled plastic parts. They may include individual plastic components or injected polymer materials used to overmold other components (metal, plastic or ceramic). Polymer parts with dimensions on the order of 10 to 100 microns with even smaller features are now feasible. Part volumes are often less than 1 cubic mm and are not generally larger than 150 cubic mm.
Some of the applications we have worked with include
  • In-line molding of catheter tips
  • Joining of two or more tubes or parts
  • Battery cases-hearing aids
  • Grommets
  • Transition tubes over wires
  • Silicone rubber implants
  • Bio-degradable implants
  • Silicone rubber overmolded seals on polycarbonate, PEEK and Nickel
  • Miniature T fittings
  • Microfluidic chip

Demonstration Sesame seed weighing .0022 g with 0.3mm high molded in letters. Twenty seeds can be molded from a single thermoplastic pellet.
Catheter soft tip molded onto guiding catheter. Outside diameter of 6 French, wall thickness of .012 inches.
Materials we have molded include
  • Biodegradable polymers

  • Polypropylene
  • Polyethylene
  • ABS
  • LCP
  • Nylon
  • PET
  • Silicone Rubber (20A to 80A)
  • Acrylic (PMMA)
  • Polycarbonate
  • TPE-s
  • Glass filled materials
