Today marks Medical Murray’s 20th anniversary since its founding. For two decades, the company has helped customers bring innovative medical technologies to market by designing and delivering life-changing medical devices to improve the betterment of patient care.
Medical Murray was created on April 1, 1996, by father and son team Phil and Andy Leopold who saw a growing need for highly skilled medical device engineering. The company is still owned and operated by the Leopold family, and focuses entirely on designing, developing, and manufacturing highly specialized catheters and intricate components used for a wide variety of minimally invasive procedures.
With a company culture that emphasizes innovation, urgency, and customer success, Medical Murray has grown from a start-up business with a handful of employees to over 100 employees in four U.S. locations.
“The past 20 years has been quite a journey, but we wouldn’t be here without the hard work and commitment of our staff and support of our customers,” said Phil Leopold, president of Medical Murray. “Our focus has always been and will continue to be on customer satisfaction and achieving results that help patients achieve a higher quality of life.”
Medical Murray began in Buffalo Grove, Ill., focused primarily on engineering services. Then in 2004, eight years later, the company moved to North Barrington, Ill., expanding its design and development capabilities by adding more R&D and pilot production space. Their business model was transformed in 2008 when Medical Murray opened a 20,000 square foot manufacturing facility featuring 6,000 square feet of ISO class 7 cleanroom space for complete manufacturing services.
“The new manufacturing facility strengthened our commitment to our customers and the industry by providing full production of class II and III medical devices including insert molding and braiding processes,” mentioned Leopold.
This year, Medical Murray purchased the entire 44,000 square foot facility located at 540 Capital Drive, Lake Zurich, Ill. (pictured above). Their current goal is to increase manufacturing services even deeper to our customers and provide greater capacity to perform manufacturing services including assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution. The expansion follows the opening of development facilities located in Charlotte, N.C., in 2012 and San Carlos, Calif., in 2014.
“At Medical Murray, we are thankful for making this milestone anniversary possible,” said co-founder and vice president of R&D, Andy Leopold. “We continue to build on our technical capabilities to help customers create life-saving products and solve challenges, and look forward to what the next 20 years will bring.”
